Away for 1 Week

July 30, 2008

I’m going away for the week so I won’t be able to log in and post. I will be back soon though and I’ll have lots to blog about I’m sure.

As a leaving gift – here’s my favourite song of the moment

Where Nobody Knows Mp3.

It’s a Kings of Leon song from the Aha Shake Heartbreak CD. Buy it.

Oh and one last thing, a still from the new We Are Scientists video for Impatience -

You can download Crawl for free from their website just by entering your email. It’s a brilliant song, kind of like if Caleb, Jack White and Mick Jagger got together to write it.

I can’t wait till the whole album, Only By The Night, comes out on 22nd September or, in fact, when I’ll get to hear it live on the 5th December ;)

‘Working with Lindsay is an interesting proposition.

I’ve always been a big fan and I think she’s cool. ‘I’ve never met Samantha Ronson but I have met her dad and her sister Charlotte when I was working with Mark at Coachella. They are a great family.

‘I’ll be heading over to Los Angeles and New York in a couple of weeks to start writing for Lindsay and a few other artists. I’m really excited’

He was recommended by Mark Ronson who’s sister Samantha is currently dating Lindsay.

It will apparently be her third album???? I didn’t realise she’d had two already. But I won’t be getting this one for sure. I think Sam Sparro is terrible – not only musically but he seems to dress like some sort of nu rave poser as well (look at the lenseless glasses in the above picture). Someone should tell him he’s a year late.

Leeds Party In The Park

July 27, 2008

Leeds was hot today. My jeans were too tight to handle it – Mcfly were pretty hot too. As in, performancewise. Though judging by the girl flashing Danny they were going down well in the sexiness department too. They started off by playing One for the Radio (their latest single…) but luckily they then played some songs I knew ie. Obviously and All About You. They finished with 5 colours in her hair – a classic. That was my favourite song four years ago.

Okay now I have to talk about bands I don’t feel a fondness for aka Basshunter and Same Difference and Alphabeat. Basshunter is essentially a chav who got lucky. He did do a bit of a thrust though which is always a treat. Same Difference are really really awful. And are they a covers band? Because the only songs i heard them play were by Scissor Sisters and High School Musical (Rock n Rollll!) Alphabeat were okay I guess – if you like that sort of thing, (which, actually, not even my mum likes and she bought a Shayne Ward album :| )

And on a different note, on the train back from Leeds we stopped at Dewsbury and who should get on but James May, presenter of popular car related show Top Gear. He got off in Huddersfield as well and went and had some drinks in a pub (all the while being filmed). We spoke to him for a little while before we realised we were going to miss our train so our conversation was sadly cut short.

Amy Winehouse Waxwork

July 24, 2008

Very lifelike. Amy didn’t turn up to the unveiling herself (no surprise) but her mum and dad were then and they looked pretty pleased with the result. It sort of demonstrates how thin she is though. Her arms are almost anorexic looking. I remember when she came off the drugs for a while and put on some weight, she looked good back then….

One more thing, at this angle, her beehive looks fantastic!

When The Sun Goes Down

July 22, 2008

There are many reasons I love Arctic Monkeys. The first reason is the fact they’ve put Sheffield and indeed Yorkshire back on the musical map – yeah we do have Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs and bands like that but we needed a superstar band to make London sit up and listen. Which is exactly what they did – months before they’d released their debut album (which was the fastest selling in British history before Leona stole their title!)

Russia bans emos

July 20, 2008

And punks, and goths, and halloween and pretty much everything else in between

‘Together with proposals to combat child alcoholism and pornography, the policy project outlines a raft of draconian measures such as a 10 p.m. curfew for all school-age children and a ban on tattoos and body-piercings.

Under the new measures, schools would be prohibited from celebrating Western holidays like Halloween and St. Valentine’s Day, which are deemed inappropriate to “Russian culture.” Toys in the shape of monsters or skeletons would be banned as “provoking aggression.”

The proposal also sets its sights on teenage subcultures such as emo, a style of hardcore punk, and goth, which lawmakers accuse of “cultivating bisexuality.” Both styles, the legislation implies, are social scourges on a par with the skinhead movement, and must be eliminated from the social landscape.’

Cultivating bisexuality?! First things first, bisexuality is not a crime, and secondly, you don’t become bisexual because of the music you like! Jeez louise.

Also, I’m not a fan of emo music or fashion but what i will say is this, it is definately not on a par with the skinhead movement. Skinheads are racist thugs, (we’ve all seen This is England), emos only really care about what music people like.

And a 10pm curfew for all school age children? I believe that’s what they give people with ASBOs over here. What a swell government Russia has.

Kings of Leon tour

July 18, 2008

Kings of Leons tour went on sale this morning at 9am but, lucky for you, it hasn’t sold out yet.

Ticketmaster, See tickets and Gigsandtours are all selling tickets but I’ll give you a clue – if they’ve sold out try the venue websites eg. sheffieldarena.co.uk as they are more likely to have some left.

They’ll be playing London, Newcastle, Sheffield, Brighton, Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Brimingham and Cardiff this december following the november release of their 4th album Only By The Night.

And remember, if you don’t get tickets there’s always the other things to fall back on, ie. pretending to be press, befriending security, getting a job at the arena, entering every competition under the sun ;) you’ll figure something out.

P.S I’m going to Sheffield. See you there??

Vampire Weekend Tour!

July 18, 2008

There are 6 dates still available on ticketmaster. I’m not going to torture you by mentioning the two sold out shows but … sorry Londoners.

They’re playing Sheffield, Bristol, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham and Manchester in October. Click here for tickets. They’ll cost approximately £13.50 not including booking fees etc. A reasonable price for one of the best new bands around :)

enjoy yourselves!
