Huddersfield Party in the Park
June 30, 2008

Not being one to turn down free music, I was down in Greenhead park yesterday for the first Huddersfield Party in the Park. The top 3 acts were The Script, Elliot Minor and The Guillemots. I’m not really a fan of any of those bands but the best one by far was The Script. They played Glastonbury a few days ago and will be playing T in the Park and Oxegen festival. They were the only band you could really tell were playing music.
Elliot Minor had a lot of fans. Mainly 13 year olds with banners. The presenters kept trying to get everyone all excited but they were mostly being ignored where i was sitting. The crowd were going crazy for it though.
And The Guillemots. I don’t really like The Guillemots to start with. I think they’re actually pretty boring. Radio one love them don’t they? But radio one love anything vaguely indie and commercial so that makes sense. Last night they seemed like they were trying too hard to be rockstars. They were all decked out in red clothing which was probably something to do with their new EP, ‘Red’, but they looked like they were trying to be The White Stripes - I suppose it didn’t help that the girl in their band resembled Meg. And the music really wasn’t rockstar standard. All in all, I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.
Luckily, there were some highlights to keep me entertained. For example, there were many lookalikes in Greenhead Park yesterday. I spotted
+Robin Hood
+Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys)
+Alex Turner
+Dr. Who
+Gary Lucy
And about 12 million Albert Hammond Jr’s (people with really big curly hair)
It was incredible.

lawl! i saw the robin hood reprebate looked funny i think the proms in the park was much better for me and i agree with the script being the best the company i was with were hot too like throwing one of us in like 8 foot in tha air was brilliant! but going again next year may bring some beverages? hmm?
We both went to Party In the Park yesterday, we were right at the front and the presenters were not ignored, the script was not the best it was Elliot minor by far, we liked the fact that there was a range of music being played, personally we had only heard of one band there because we tend to stick to the punk rock / indie genre of music, the local bands were cool Project Sunset was a favorite which is odd because we had never listened to anything like them before.
It is true that Elliot Minor had the most fans, but not 13 year olds we knew 12 people who where there in the age group of 15 to 17 besides that the other people around us seemed a lot older a woman next to us at the front was about 30 and she was there with another big group of people.
The Script where awesome though, in my opinion [Julia] they were the best preformers there but the fact is Elliot Minor was a favorite because of there music and i never realized how much you could head bang to a group like theres they are so much better live than on there CD’s so anyone who says they are not are wrong by far.
Not sure what planet Julia Taylor is on unless she work for the local authority! Wouldnt surprise me actually.
The presenters who total knobs and the Script were by far the only worthy act. Glad I didnt pay for it. Large set up considering the boring line up. Ultimately really odd gig. Come Huddersfield you can do better
