Huddersfield Party in the Park
June 30, 2008

Not being one to turn down free music, I was down in Greenhead park yesterday for the first Huddersfield Party in the Park. The top 3 acts were The Script, Elliot Minor and The Guillemots. I’m not really a fan of any of those bands but the best one by far was The Script. They played Glastonbury a few days ago and will be playing T in the Park and Oxegen festival. They were the only band you could really tell were playing music.
Elliot Minor had a lot of fans. Mainly 13 year olds with banners. The presenters kept trying to get everyone all excited but they were mostly being ignored where i was sitting. The crowd were going crazy for it though.

The brilliant Raconteurs performing Consoler of the Lonely
JAy-Z didn’t go down too badly either! According to Reuters UK,
‘The controversial choice of American rapper Jay-Z to headline Glastonbury proved to be a masterstroke by the event’s organiser Michael Eavis as the hip-hop star wowed the music festival on Saturday.
Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher had called hip hop at Glastonbury “wrong” and traditionalists in Internet chatrooms had said they would have preferred a band like Radiohead, while critics also blamed the rapper for slow ticket sales.’
Apparently Jay-Z even took to the stage to the sound of Oasis’ Wonderwall which is fantastic. You’ve got to give it to the man, he has a sense of humour.
Amy Winehouse did turn out in the end as well and played an hour long set so things seem to be looking up for her. She even asked festival organiser Michael Eavis if she could headline next year.
Agyness and Albert?

Holding Hands?!

I thought Albert Hammond Jr. was still dating that model that noone had ever heard of. According to many sources though, he could be at the start of a relationship with northern england’s cutest new celebrity, Agyness Deyn.
They were spotted out and about in London holding hands, and he took her to the songwriters hall of fame. When asked by NY mag how they met the couple apparently gazed into each other’s eyes. “That’s a bit personal, sorry,” Deyn replied.
Personally, I hope it’s true
Friday at Glastonbury
June 28, 2008

Sadly, with me not being made of money, i’ve been forced to watch it on the television at home.
I settled down last night to watch Kings of Leon but when they still hadn’t shown them at midnight i went to sleep, safe in the knowledge that i had taped it. Well… apparently I didn’t tape it. Gutted! I was really looking forward to watching them seen as how i’ve never seen them live. Luckily, they recently released news that their new album ‘Only by the Night’ will be released in the next few months. Us Brits get it a day earlier than the US with it being released on the 22nd September here. I can’t wait
Red Light – The Strokes
June 27, 2008

I think every so often I’ll write a post about one of my favourite songs, or bands, or videos or whatever and explain to you whyi love it. Because it’s not just the newest releases that are important of course
Red Light is the last track on First Impressions of Earth and arguably one of the best. I don’t know if it’s the fact Julian is for once just telling his woman that he loves her, or the tune to which he sings it. ‘All the girls could never make me love them the way I love you’. That line absolutely kills me – you know when you hear a line so good you have to listen to it again and again?
So check the song out, if you like LOVE it, then please download the album! Believe me, it’s worth it.
American Bang
June 26, 2008

Fairly well-known to those living it up in Southern U.S.A, less so to those of us residing in the UK, American Bang sound like what would happen if Kings of Leon ever got into a fight with Pearl Jam i.e. country-tinged rock’n'roll brilliance!
They released a debut album in 2005 entitled I Shot The King, before playing with the likes of Lynryd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes and Be Your Own Pet in 2006.
Mcfly to Give Album Away!
June 25, 2008

And not in the same manner as Radiohead. Oh no, we’re actually going to get a hard copy of the record entitled Radio:ACTIVE. If we buy the Mail on Sunday on 20th July that is.
Lead singer Tom Fletcher said, “We get to put it into almost three million homes, which is an incredible opportunity for us. Hopefully the three million people will all enjoy the music and they’ll decide to see us when we go on tour.“
So Mcfly fan or not it might be nice to get a free album – if you don’t mind playing along to a genius marketing ploy by the Mail that is.
In other news, I think Conor Oberst has a twin and he’s living in Manchester. I swear he served me at a cafe today. Drop into the titchy coffee co. in the centre of Mancs and you will know what i mean!
Last Shadow Puppets

You know when you buy an album but you don’t really give it much of a chance?
I did that with Age of the Understatement. I liked the title track so I bought the album, trusting in the genius that is Alex Turner’s skill for writing absolute belters, but unfortunately none of the other tracks sounded like that so I sort of gave up on it.
Recently, I’ve been listening a bit more and I now really, really like it! There are a few tracks that stand out for me in particular. My second favourite is a song called My Mistakes Were Made For You. It sounds like if Arctic Monkeys covered Scott Walker, smooth and beautiful and classic.
Amy Winehouse diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease
June 23, 2008

From MSN.com
In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Mitch Winehouse said his daughter – who was rushed to hospital after collapsing last week – has developed the chronic lung disease emphysema, possibly brought on by smoking crack cocaine.
The extent of her health concerns were outlined by Mr Winehouse in the interview. He told the paper doctors said if the singer continued in the way she was going, she would have ended up an invalid.
He said: “She’s got emphysema. It’s in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there with a mask on her face struggling to breathe.”
Mr Winehouse added that smoking crack and cigarettes had meant that her lungs were “all gunked up”, saying: “The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won’t just ruin her voice, it will kill her.”
The concerned father said his daughter had vowed to stay clean and has started a drug replacement programme.
But he said: “I’m saying to those drug dealers, and they know who they are, if they are supplying crack to Amy, then they’ve got to take responsibility.
“I don’t want her hanging out with her mates like Pete Doherty either. What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her?”
So it seems unlikely she will be playing Glasto then?
Amy Winehouse may pull out of Glastonbury
June 22, 2008

Not out of choice of course. Her mystery illness that caused her to faint at her home earlier this week has still not been named although it is definately not TB apparently.
Her spokesman has said, ‘Amy has undergone more scans and tests and we are awaiting the verdict of her doctors.
“At present, she still intends to perform at the two scheduled dates next week. However, a decision will be made entirely upon the advice of her doctors and in her best interests.”
Fingers Crossed.
